Outreach

Wow! That Is Engineering! event. Julia (seated at right) is an academic panel member discussing with parent of 10th-12th grade girls, the opportunities of the engineering careers for women.

Experiment acquainting K-12 students and teachers with high heat capacity of water. A wet cloth soaked in ethyl alcohol and held by the student with the tongs is ignited. However, the cloth does not burn due to the cooling effect from evaporating water. The student performing an experiment had offered a plausible explanation for the observation as to water beats fire.

Outreach is an important part of community participation, especially with sciences and engineering.

There are many outreach possibilities that can help us better explain to the community what science and engineering are about. For example:

- Speaking with lawmakers in Washington D.C

- Giving public lectures

- Working with K-12 student(s) on science fair project(s)

- Participation in Outreach Events. Below are some pictures of outreach events Dr. Lyubovitsky participated in.

Bourns Space Science and Engineering Day. 20 min lecture about the engineering jobs and bioengineering. Hands-on demonstration were conducted as well.
